Tsira Barbakadze defended her candidacy thesis in 1997 on the topic of The Karvelian Languages, and defended her doctoral dissertation on Georgian eloquence lingvopragmatics in 2004.
At different times she was: Dean of the Faculty of Rhetoric and General Linguistics at Sulkhan-Saba State University and at Ilia State University, a member of the Ilia State University senate. Was chief editor and publisher of Georgian linguistic newspaper – “Sitkuai” during 1996-1998, and executive secretary of the series “Kartvelological Library” during 1998-2002. She is chief editor and publisher of the scientific journal “Semiotics” since 2006 (“Semiotics” has published 14 issues thus far). Is an organizer of the annual scientific conference in semiotics since 2010 (In 2015 conference in semiotics will be held for the 6th time in Batumi). Tsira Barbakadze founded the series “Semiotic Translations” at the Centre for Semiotics Research , which includes the following publications: Roland Barthes’ “Writing Degree Zero”, Yuri Lotman “Inside the Thinking Worlds”, José Ortega y Gasset’s “Man and people”. In 2014, she published first collection of poems in the genre of fantasy, which included Georgian authors. Is the author of several poetry collections: “Poems” (1996), “Open a window” (2003); “Silence News” (2008); “Strange city” (2011).
She is interested in artistic photography. Her first personal exhibition was held in 2003 in the “Omega-gallery”, and in other exhibition halls thereafter.
