Tengiz Verulava graduated from Tbilisi State Medical Institute in 1990, Britain’s York University (Health Economics) in 1997, and Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University School of Economics in 2000. Completed internship at Magdeburg (Germany) health insurance company in 1998. Defended his thesis on “Complex valuation of medical care reimbursement methods” at Tbilisi State Medical Institute in 2001.
At different times, worked as the Head of the State Health Insurance Company Samegrelo and Zemo Staveti branches; as an adviser at the Healthcare and Social Programs Agency of Ministry of Health, as a Head coordinator of healthcare reforms project in the penitentiary system of the Ministry of Corrections and Legal Assistance; As a Head of the “Aversi Insurance” insurance and reinsurance products office; Head of the Quality Management Department of Acad. G. Chapidze State Urgent Cardiology Center; As Dean of the Faculty of Health Economics and Insurance at University of Georgia, Was Dean of the Business School of Ilia State University during 2011-2012, and Deputy Dean of Ilia State University School of Arts and Sciences; Head of the School of Healthcare and Insurance since 2013, as well as a manager of Master’s and PhD level programmes in Health Policy and Management and Insurence at ISU. Has published books: “Features of Health Care System in the Netherlands” (2000), “The health care system in the Islamic Republic of Iran” (2000), “Health care system in Georgia” (2001), “Health Economics” (2003), “Health Economics and Insurance” ( 2009). He has published around thirty scientific papers in both Georgian and international peer-reviewed scientific journals.
