Graduated from the Faculty of Forestry of Agrarian Institute of Georgia in 1976. PhD in Botany from Institute of Botany of the Georgian Academy of Sciences (now Institute of Botany, ISU), 1985. Work experience – Department of Alpine Plant Ecology, Institute of Botany as a Researcher (1976-1999), Director of Bakuriani Alpine Botanical Garden (1999-2008), Director of Tbilisi Botanical Garden and Institute of Botany (2008-2011), Director of Institute of Botany, ISU (2011-). Major research questions – plant diversity and ecology, plant ex situ and in situ conservation, ethnobotany. At Ilia State since 2010, emplyoed as associate professor of botanical garden development and management.
