Emzar Jgerenia graduated from Ivane Javakhishvili State University Faculty of Philosophy and Phycology in 1990. Defended his dissertation on “Utopia and upotian element in sociological theories” in 2003. During 2000-2003, he participated in research seminars organized by the University of Bochum (Germany) aimed at supporting PhD students in research and facilitating exchange of ideas between the researchers. Was a researcher at the Bayreuth University in 2002. Has been a  professor at the Ilia State University since 2006. He participated in the joint research project of Ilia State University and the Berlin Literature and Culture Research Institute, named “Semantics of Georgia between the Caucasus and the Black Sea” during 2012-2015.

Scientific interests / research interests

  • Sociology of Religion. Classical and contemporary sociological theories. Sociology of power.
