Manana Tevzadze

Manana Tevzadze is the board member and former Chair of the Georgian National Committee of the Blue Shield (2012-2023). With a master’s degree in World Heritage Studies from Brandenburg University of Technology Cottbus Senftenberg, she brings almost 20 years of experience in Georgia’s cultural heritage sector. During her tenure as the first chair of Blue Shield Georgia Manana succeeded in developing a strong civil society organisation advocating for cultural heritage disaster risk preparedness. Along with her duties as the Chair of Blue Shield Georgia, where she spearheaded numerous donor-funded projects, resulting in the development of disaster risk management and conservation plans for heritage sites and museums in Georgia, Manana also worked as a freelance heritage consultant, researcher and trainer and has been engaged in projects funded by the EU, Norwegian Directorate for Cultural Heritage, GIZ, the World Bank, UNESCO and ICCROM.

In the academic field, Manana has taught courses (Culture Project Management, Cultural Heritage and Tourism, Heritage Conservation and Management, Heritage Tourism and Heritage Management) at Tbilisi State Academy of Arts and Ilia State University as a visiting lecturer.

As an active civil society member, Manana serves on the boards of ICOM and ICOMOS Georgia and is the Secretary of ICOMOS Georgia since 2019, having also served on the board of Blue Shield International from 2017 to 2020.

Scientific interests / research interests

Protection of Cultural Heritage in Times of Crises, Implementation of the UNESCO 1954 Hague Convention with the focus on Georgia’s cultural property on the occupied territories, Study of the intangible cultural heritage among the Internally Displaced Communities in Georgia.
