Tamar Berekashvili graduated from Tbilisi State University, School of Cybernetics, specializing in biocybernetics in 1972. In 1980 graduated from Ilia Chavchavadze State Pedagogical Institute majoring in the French language and literature. She passed courses of simultaneous interpretation at the abovementioned institute in 1983. In 1990 defended her thesis for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy. Worked as a senior research fellow at the Academy of Sciences Institute of Cybernetics during 1972-1984, was a research fellow at the Academy of Ethnic Studies during 1984-1991, and was a senior research fellow at the Institute of Philosophy during 1991-2006. Simultaneously, she worked as a senior teacher at the Ilia Chavchavadze State University during 1991-2006, as well as worked as a head of Research Department at the Georgian parliament during 1984-1994, and as a head of the Department of citizen relations at the State Chancellery of Georgia during 2006-2008 years. At different times, she worked as an invited professor at the school of Philosophy of Culture at Tbilisi State University (1996-2005) and at the Kharkov State University, School of Sociology (2003-2008). She has been an Ilia State University professor since 2006.
