In 1989, Maya Todua graduated from the faculty of Mathematics and Mechanics at Leningrad State University (Russia, USSR) with a diploma in Astronomy. In 1989 she started work at Abastumani Astrophysical Observatory in the department of Stellar astronomy. She participated in observations on 125-cm and 70-cm telescopes of the Observatory. From 2001-2003 she studied and worked as a teaching assistant at the department of Physics and Astronomy of Rutgers University (New Jersey, USA) and graduated with an MS degree in Physics. Since 2003 she has continued working at Abastumani Observatory in the department of Upper atmosphere studies, where she was involved in the ISTC project. Under this project, the lidar system for aerosol measurements was made at Michigan University (Ann Arbor, Michigan, USA) and installed in Georgia for the first time. From 2011-2014 she was an Assistant Professor at Ilia State University. From 2011-2020 she was a director of Evgeni Kharadze Abastumani Astrophysical Observatory. In 2015 she received a PhD degree in Physics at Ilia State University. Since 2015 she has been an Associate Professor at Ilia University (School of Natural Sciences and Medicine).
