Nino Doborjginidze, Doctor of Linguistics (1998)

1976-1981 studied at the Faculty of Philology of Tbilisi State University, specialising in Classical Philology.

From 1982 to 2006, she worked at the “Orion” Manuscripts Research Laboratory in the Department of Ancient Georgian Language at Tbilisi State University.

Between 1996 and 2000, she was a visiting researcher at the Georg-August University of Göttingen and the Academy of Sciences (Institute for Patristic Studies) in Germany, supported by fellowships from the EKD, KAAD, and DAAD foundations. She subsequently held fellowships from the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation in 2000–2001, 2006, 2011, and 2015, during which she conducted research at the Universities of Göttingen and Oldenburg.

Since 2006, Professor Doborjginidze has been affiliated with Ilia State University. She served as an Associate Professor in the Faculty of Arts and Sciences until 2010, when she was promoted to Full Professor. From 2017 to 2021, she served as Vice Rector for Research, and in 2022, she was appointed Rector of Ilia State University.

Scientific interests / research interests

History of linguistic ideas; medieval studies, digital humanities; corpus linguistics; ancient Georgian philology.
