პროფესორი, მცენარეთა ეკოლოგიის მიმართულებით
ოთარ აბდალაძემ 1981 წელს დაამთავრა ივანე ჯავახიშვილის სახელობის თბილისის სახელმწიფო უნივერსიტეტის ბიოლოგიის ფაკულტეტი. 1982-1984 წლებში სწავლობდა ლენინგრადის (ამჟამად სანქტ-პეტერბურგის) სსრკ მეცნიერებათა აკადემიის კომაროვის სახელობის ბოტანიკის ინსტიტუტის ასპირანტურაში. 1985 წელს დაიცვა საკანდიდატო დისერტაცია თემაზე: „ცენტრალური კავკასიონის სუბალპური სარტყლის მცენარეთა CO2-გაზთა ცვლა“. 1988-1990 წლებში მაღალმთის მცენარეთა ეკოლოგიის დარგში გაიარა სტაჟირება ინსბრუკის უნივერსიტეტის ბოტანიკის ინსტიტუტში. 1994 წ დაიცვა სადოქტორო დისერტაცია თემაზე: „საქართველოს მაღალმთის მცენარეთა CO2-გაზთა ცვლა“. 1984-2011 წლებში მუშაობდა ნ. კეცხოველის თბილისის ბოტანიკის ინსტიტუტში. 2002-2011 წლებში იყო ამავე ინსტიტუტის „მაღალმთის მცენარეულობის ეკოლოგიის“ განყოფილების გამგე, ხოლო 2005-2006 წლებში – დირექტორის მოადგილე სამეცნიერო დარგში. ილიას სახელმწიფო უნივერსიტეტში მუშაობს 2006 წლიდან. 2009 წლიდან ამავე უნივერსიტეტის ეკოლოგიის ინსტიტუტის თანადირექტორი და „მაღალმთის ეკოსისტემების კვლევის პროგრამის“ ხელმძღვანელია, ხოლო 2011 წლიდან – ეკოლოგიის პროფესორი. გამოქვეყნებული აქვს 63 სამეცნიერო პუბლიკაცია.
