Giorgi Javakhishvili was born on April 5, 1958, Tbilisi, Georgia. In 1975 he graduated from high school in Tbilisi. In 1975-1980 he studied at the faculty of Mathematics and Mechanics of Tbilisi State University (Georgia) and graduated with the diploma in Astronomy. In 1980 he started working in Abastumani Astrophysical Observatory, at the department of Stellar astronomy. He participated in observations. On 1998 he received a PhD degree in Astrophysics . 2007-2009 he was a director of Evgeni Kharadze Abastumani Astrophysical Observatory. Since 2007 he is  an associate professor of the School of Natural Sciences and Engeneering of Ilia University.

Scientific interests / research interests

Atmospheric physics, Earth-Near-space connections, multiple stars, stellar clusters, astrodynamics, Solar physics, tree body problem.

  • Working Experience:
  • Observations on the telescopes: 12-cm telescope Azt-11, 70 cm Meniscus telescope, 40-cm double astrograph, solar
  • eclipse telescopes, upper atmospheric study equipment.
  • Astrophotography, electrophotometer, spectral work, public astronomy, working with CCD cameras, photometers of the nightglow measurements.
  • Programming languages: Pascal, Matlab.
  • Participated in the expeditions of the solar eclipse in 1981 and 1999.
  • Public outreach in Astronomy, lectures in public schools.
  • Work with students (lecture – seminars, summer practice, management of diploma papers, preparation of report for student conferences.)
  • Reviewing Doctoral Thesis.
  • Doctoral dissertation management.
