1979 – graduated from Tbilisi State University, qualification – philologist, teacher (English language and literature). 1983 – finished a post-graduate course at Maurice Torez Pedagogical Institute of Foreign Languages in Moscow; thesis: Linguistic and Stylistic Analysis of English Textbooks in Humanities. While doing her degree and after (1980-1990) she published articles on stylistic features of scientific English.

Teaching English since 1984: general, English for Specific Purposes (ESP) and corresponding Cambridge ESOL examination preparation programmes. In 1997, 1999 was awarded two international certificates as a teacher of English as a foreign language (IH, LCCI Cert TEB).

Since 1997 she has been cooperating with the British Council in Georgia on freelance basis, as a teacher trainer and an ELT projects’ consultant. She is a certified Cambridge speaking examiner (PET, FCE). Meanwhile, a member of local and international English language teachers’ asscociations (presenter, organiser, scientific commettee member, moderator, panel discussion participant, peer-reviewer). 2016 – the editorial board member – new international academic peer-reviewed journal Online Journal of Humanities.

She has been working at Ilia State University since 2010, as a methodology advisor, business English programmes coordinator, teacher, assocoate professor. In 2014 – was appointed as the Director of a newly established Academic Writing Centre.

Scientific interests / research interests

  • English for Professional Purposes (business, legal, tourism): materials development and effective teaching;
  • Learning technologies in teaching English for Professiona/Specific Purposes;
  • Integrating content and language in higher education and teaching Business Administration subjects; English as a Medium of Instruction (EMI);
  • Development of academic writing programmes Georgian and English;
  • Academic writing centre operation and preparation of consultants/tutors;
  • Teaching academic writing at three levels;
  • Interactive teaching;
  • Flipped learning, scaffolding and other moderns language teaching methods: what is new?
  • Learners with Special Educatinal Needs (SEN) and English Language Teaching (ELT)

Teacher training and development programmes

  • 2015 – How to prepare for ILECA 10-hour course developed for and delivered to the British Council in Georgia Learning Centre teachers. The British Council funded.
  • 2012 – How to prepare for A 10-hour teacher training course. The British Council funded.
  • 2011 – How to prepare for A 10-hour teacher training course. The British Council funded.
  • 2007-2008 – Business English for Teachers. A 40-hour teacher training course. The British Council and English Teachers Association of Georgia (ETAG) funded. The course in included in the professional development programme of ETAG. Several (4 in Tbilisi and one in Batumi) courses have already been held.
