Nikoloz Tsikaridze paleoanthropologist and archaeologist, has 19-years of experience. He is a graduate with a BA in archaeology from Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University; an MA from the Erasmus Mundus program (University of Ferrara and Institute of Human Paleontology of Paris); a Ph.D. graduate of the University of Florence in Earth sciences. He participated in several international conferences (Bari, Tbilisi, Perugia, etc.), has been involved in excavations at a national level (Dmanisi, Tsutskhvati, Sakazhia, Udabno, etc.) and international archaeological projects (Atapuerca, Orce, Isernia, etc.). The research team under the leadership of N. Tsikaridze completed two different projects, supported by the additional project of Ana Mgeladze and Sandrine Prat. All three projects were focused on the MP and UP, MP/UP transition, subsistence patterns of H. neanderthalensis /AMHs, paleoecology, paleogeography, geology, etc. These projects are: “Neanderthals in South Caucasus”, “Neanderthals in Western Georgia” and “Last Neanderthal and first Anatomically Modern Human settlements in Georgia”. N. Tsikaridze has led excavations in the Imereti region since 2017 in the caves of Tsutskvati complex (Bronze cave and Double cave) and at Sakazhia cave, new excavations are planned at Ortvala and Tsopi Caves; in all, more than ten archaeological expeditions and surveys were conducted under the leadership of Dr. Tsikaridze. Before becoming PI at Tsutskhvati and Sakazhia he directed some short-term campaigns and supervised different excavation areas at different sites. Since 2003 he is a permanent member of the Dmanisi research team. His Master’s thesis covers research in the Neanderthals of West Georgia and Sakazhia cave and part of his Ph.D. thesis is published in the highly ranked Journal of Human Evolution; this article concerns the biogeography and ecology of Homo erectus and its interrelationship with herbivores, carnivores, and natural resources. During the last five years, eight (five about Tsutskhvati, three about Sakhazia Cave) excavation reports were published in the reporting journal of the National Agency for Cultural Heritage Preservation Georgia, two preliminary articles were published in The Bulletin of the Georgian National Academy of Sciences and Journal Culture+, in 2020 two more articles were published recently in Journal of Human Evolution.
