Position:Full Professor
Nino Danelia is a head of a program “Journalism and Media Research” at Ilia State University. She is a full professor of mass communication at Ilia State University and an invited professor at Caucasus School of Journalism and Media Management.
Danelia’s research interests are in democracy and public sphere, Soviet dissident communication, and journalism professional and civic values.
Danelia is an author of several research and policy papers on Georgian media and several handbooks for Georgian journalists and communication specialists. She has twenty years of experience of working for several newspapers and radio programs as a reporter and editor; and more then 10 years of experience of teaching journalism and mass communication.
At present, she serves as a board member for “International Society for Fair Elections and Democracy” (ISFED) and Open Society Georgia Foundation (OSGF). She is also a founder and a member of a “Coalition for Media Advocacy”, a founder and a member of “Georgian Women Movement”.
Danelia has taught undergraduate courses in journalism history. She has also taught graduate seminars in mass communication theory, media ethics, content analysis methods in communication research and public opinion.
Danelia obtained her B.A., from Tbilisi State Academy of Arts and M.M.C., from Manship School of Mass Communications, Louisiana State University. Currently she is an ABD at University of South Carolina.
