Position: Full Professor





Tamar Tsopurashvili – is a full professor at Ilia State University and the director of the Savle Tserteli Institute of Philosophy. From 2005 to 2009, as a fellow of German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) and Open Society Institute (OSI) joint doctoral scholarship she was studying as a PhD student at the Ruhr-University Bochum and defended her doctoral thesis there. Alongside various articles in Georgian, German, and English, she authored the German language monograph “Sprache und Metaphysik: Prädikationslehre Meister Eckharts und ihre Auswirkung auf sein Denken”, published in 2011 as the 52nd volume of the Bochumer Studien zur Philosophie series.

In 2014-2015, she received Swiss Government Excellence Scholarship and conducted her postdoctoral research at the University of Fribourg. In 2019 as a fellow of DEA Program (Associate Research Directors) she was a guest researcher at the Foundation Maison des Sciences de’l Homme in Paris.

Next to the several collection volumes published in Geogria, she published the following collection volumes with Brill/Mentis and Reichert Verlag publishing houses in 2021: Th. Gutmann/T. As a director of Institute of Philosophy she has organized several research events during years, including international conferences at Ilia State University. Two projects designed and lead by Prof. Tamar Tsopurashvili in different years (in 2020 and 2023) won grants from the John Templeton Foundation in the Oxford University grant competition “New Horizons for Science and Religion in Central and Eastern Europe.” Her research fields encompass the history of philosophy and continental philosophy.
