Zurab Matiashvili graduated faculty of architecture from Georgian Polytechnic Institute in 1978. After graduating he starts working in Students’ Design Bureau firstly as architect and then as senior architect, head of group and deputy  for head of Bureau. During work process he outstands as practicing architect with distinguished vision and theoretical knowledge.  He is author of several interesting architectural projects and realizations. He systematically takes part in different competitions. In 1987 he was awarded as a laureate in all-union and republic competition amongst young architects.

In 1994 Zurab Matiashvili starts his pedagogic work in Institute of Architecture as senior teacher at the cathedra of architectural planning. In 2000 at the same cathedra he becomes assistant professor. Many interesting diploma and competition projects are held under his supervision. His students are participants and laureates of international and republic diploma competitions.

In 2009 he takes part in training organized by Georgian Technical University’s professional education center, Iowa State University (USA) and “Communal Colleges for International Development (USA)” in general course of modern methodologies in teaching.

In 2013 Zurab Matiashvili starts working at Ilia State University’s faculty of Natural Sciences and Engineering, specializing in architecture, is reading lectures for master’s students. He currently is associated professor at faculty of natural sciences and engineering.

Scientific interests / research interests

Residential and public architecture, “green” architecture and modern technologies.
