In 1995 Mr. George Papuashvili graduated with honors from the faculty of International Law and International Relations at I. Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University.
In 1996-1997, as the winner of the Open Society Foundation Scholarship Award, he studied at the Central European University (CEU), Department of Political Science in Budapest, Hungary, awarded the degree of Master of Arts in Political Science (MA). Having won in the Edmund S. Muskie Graduate Fellowship Program, in 1999-2000 he was enrolled in the American University Washington College of Law in Washington, D.C., awarded LLM degree.
In 1997-1999 he worked as a leading expert, Head of Staff at the Legal Committee of the Parliament of Georgia.
In 2000-2004 G.Papuashvili was the Director of the Rule of Law Program at the Open Society Georgia – Foundation.
In 2004 – 2005 he occupied the position of the Minister of Justice of Georgia.
In 2005 – 2006, G.Papuashvili was appointed as the Minister of Environment Protection and Natural Recourses of Georgia.
In 2006 – 2016 he was the Justice and the President of the Constitutional Court of Georgia.
In 2007 – 2015 he was a member of the Venice Commission of the Council of Europe.
Since 2012 George Papuashvili has been Law Professor at Ilia State University.
As of July 2023 he has been elected as the Dean of the Law School at the Ilia State University
Beyond his academic pursuits, Mr. Papuashvili has made significant contributions as an international Consultant/Team leader on Rule of Law, Human Rights, Judicial and Public Administration reforms. He has collaborated with esteemed organizations such as the Council of Europe Venice Commission, Directorate of Human Rights; EU, World Bank; UNDP, OSCE, ODIHR, and others.
He is author of numerous scientific publications and reports.
