Paata Chkheidze graduated from Ilia Chavchavadze State Institute of Foreign languages, English department (1977). He used to work as a teacher of English language at the village school, head of the literary department at the Gori State Theatre, taught English Language at The Gori State Pedagogical Institute; was a junior researcher at The State Institute of Philosophy of Georgia. He was the member of the first Georgian Parliament and is one of the signers of The Declaration of Independence of Georgia (1991). Later, he was the member of The Parliament of Georgia of 1992-95. He worked as a head of the department of English Language and Literature, at Gori State University (1997-2006). He was the first elected mayor of the city of Gori. In 2005-2006 He was a Fulbright Visiting Professor at The Catholic University of America. He is the corresponding member of National Humanities institute, in Georgia.
