Nodar Bakhtadze is the Doctor of Historical Sciences, archeologist, architecture historian. He was born in 1953. He graduated from polytechnic institute of Georgia, Department of Architecture in 1976. In 1978-1980 passed post-graduate course in art history and archaeology  at Tbilisi Javakhishvily State university. In 1978-1989 he worked in Simon Janashia Georgian State museum first as a juniour scientist and then as a senior scientiist, was head of Archaeological expeditions.  In 1989 he  defended his candidat of archaeological scientist  thesis “Rock-Cut monuments of Qvemo Qartly”. In 1986 he defended his  Doctor of Historical  scientist thesis “The Genesis and Paths of Development of Rock-Cut Architecture in Georgia”.  In 1991-1992 worked at the ministry  of culture of Georgia as the head of department of historical monuments. In 1996-2001 worked at G.Chitaia State museum of folk architekture and ethnography as a vice-director. In 1995-2005 woked at Tbilisi Sulkhan-Saba Orbeliani State pedagogical university  first as an assistant professor and then as a professor. Since 2010 he is an  assisiate professor at Ilia State  University. In 1980-2016 Nodar Bakhtadze  led numerous archeological  expeditions in different regions of Georgia. Archeological research of architectural monuments from late antique and medieval periods throughout Caucasus represents priority direction of his scientific work. He authored of 5 monographs  and more than 80 scientific papers.

  • Historical, achaeological and art historian studies of the Georgian, Caucasian and Near East region’s monuments of the Christian monasticism;
  • Archaeological and art historian studies of the Spelestological (Rock-Cut) monuments;
  • Graphical ficsation of architectural and archaeological monuments;
  • Museology.
