Jana (Darejan) Javakhishvili has been working in trauma research, training and treatment since 1995. Since 2002 she has been engaged in the field of conflict transformation as a facilitator for peace building processes in Georgia and the South Caucasus. She is a current president of the Georgian Society of Psychotrauma, and also co-founder and board member of the Georgian Association of Addictologists. Since 2005, Jana is a contact person for the Dart Centre for Journalism and Trauma in the South Caucasus. Since 2017, she is an editorial board member of the European Journal of Psychotraumatology (EJPT). In October 2018 she was elected as a president of the European Society for Traumatic Stress Studies (ESTSS) for two years terms and since January 2019 she leads the society. Since 2012, she has been teaching at the Mental Health MA program, and since 2015 – at the Addiction Studies MA Program at Ilia State University

Scientific interests / research interests

mental health problems (including addictions) of war-affected populations; impact of political opression on mental health and well-being of the family members of the opressed; trans-generational transmission of trauma; studying effectiveness of mental health services; drug situation analyses, etc.
