Tatia Kekelia graduated from Ilia State University, the field of sociology, and defended her thesis at the same university in May 2018, titled “The Shock of Publicity: Conflicting Public and Private Spheres in Contemporary Georgian Society”. As a researcher, she has participated in several projects such as “Strengthening political pluralism in Georgia” (2016), „Human Rights, Democracy, Nation, and Religion in the Southern Caucasus. A Comparative Analysis of Key Concepts“ (2011-2014), “The Role of the Orthodox Church in the Formation of Georgian National Identity” (2010-2012), and “The Study of Sexual Behavior in Georgia” (2009-2011).
Tatia’s academic work also includes translation and edition of French texts, namely, Michel Foucault’s Madness and Civilization (not yet published), as well as passages from Raymond Aron’s Les étapes de la pensée sociologique. Currently she works as an instructor of the following courses: “Introduction in Modern Thought” and “Modernization and Georgia” at Ilia State University. Also, she is editing the translation of René Girard’s text “Bouc Emissaire”.
Tatia Kekelia’s academic interests include the study of the public and private spheres of society, social transparency, modernization, democratization, and gender and sexuality issues.
